Nav lights are certified as a housing/lens/bulb combination. The USCG only approves through third party testing, entire fixtures including the bulb. Change to any of those components with a part that is not original and the light is no longer certified. The bulbs that are offered are the direct replacements of Aqua Signal incandescent bulbs certified with the light. Navigation lights are one of the most critical safety systems on your boat. Aqua Signal halogen lamps have a higher luminous efficiency than the ordinary incandescent bulb. Lifetime is estimated at 2000 hours. Halogen lamps can be dimmed to 60% of output if needed, and can burn at full strength immediately after a switching on. This is useful when considering use in floodlights as emergency accident prevention and this feature cannot be achieved by high powered discharge lamps. The main advantage of Aqua Signal florescent lamps is their economy. Their elongated shape provides an excellent lumen/watt ratio. Florescent tubes produce very little glare so they are ideal for working spaces and engine spaces. They have a very long working life and have approximately 80% efficiency after 5000-7500 hours of use. Florescent lamps also have very good shock resistance and are not sensitive to voltage fluctuations compared to other lamps. Many of our general lamps are of the incandescent type. They are economical to install, and can be dimmed without difficulty. Luminaires using incandescent lamps can be used with different voltage supplies be simply changing the bulb. Average life is approximately 1000 hours. Aqua Signal lamps are heavy duty and designed specifically for the marine environment. |
